Job Description
The Operational Research graduate's first placement will be at Kansanshi mine in Zambia. They will work closely with the Project Manager, to help optimise the efficiency of the mining fleet. Kansanshi is the largest copper mine in Africa and is now capable of producing 250,000 tonnes of copper and more than 100,000 ounces of gold per year. With the plan to nearly double the copper output capacity by 2015, this is an incredibly exciting time to be part of the team at Kansanshi.This is an unrivaled opportunity for an enthusiastic and talented graduate to begin an international career in the mining industry.
Key Responsibilities:
- The ideal candidate will come from a Transport/mining/engineering or analytical background and will have experience in transport planning,
- Responsibilities include conducting operational research and stochastic modelling and analysis of a growing and complex mining fleet, with a creative approach to problem solving
- Good knowledge of wider transport planning issues.
- Plan and evaluate future transport schemes, forecast demand and revenue,
- Develop business cases, undertake appraisal and market analysis, as well as look at the relationships between spatial planning and transport.
- Undertake transport modelling right down to detailed micro-simulation where individual routes and systems are analysed
- Develop sophisticated transport modelling techniques
- Delivering high quality technical tasks.
- Contributing to technical client reports and presentations.
- Effectively optimise mining fleet
Desired Skills & Experience
Experience:- Experience in transport modelling and forecasting of mining fleet
- Experience in appraisal and evaluation of transport proposals.
- Experience in using one or more relevant transport planning and simulation software packages e.g. SATURN, CUBE, EMME, VISSIM, VISUM, TUBA, Legion, etc.
- A graduate with a BSc/MSc in an analytical subject (e.g. geography, mathematics, economics, engineering). A master's degree or PhD in Transport Planning or related subject.
