Job Description

General purpose and objectives of the position

This is a newly created role, based in Jakarta, with a focus on driving forward the delivery of high quality technical work in Premier’s exploration and new ventures groups in Indonesia and with a complimentary role across the SE Asia region.
The incumbent will oversee geological technical work undertaken by the groups and will interact with the Exploration and New Ventures managers in the region on technical work programmes and other technical aspects. Managers are ultimately responsible for the programmes while the incumbent will assure the technical quality of the work through a combination of mentoring and project review.
Travel will be required, as the incumbent will be interacting with G&G staff and senior stakeholders across Premier’s Indonesia, Singapore and Vietnam offices though it is anticipated that the majority of time will be spent in the Jakarta office.

Key Responsibilities
  • Primary responsibility will be to work with Jakarta Exploration team in a “hands-on” role;
    • assisting the Jakarta Exploration Manager to ensure technical work quality and best practices.
    • taking a leading role and participating in ongoing Indonesia operated and non-operated technical projects and New Venture evaluations.
    • mentoring G&G staff.
  • Gain detailed knowledge of Premier’s SE Asian exploration and NV projects through interaction with the region’s Exploration Managers and geoscientists.
  • Provide expert geological technical support and review to Premier’s Indonesian and Vietnamese exploration geoscience teams and SE Asia New Ventures teams, to ensure high quality geoscience analysis, prospect development and reporting by the teams, and hence robust exploration investment proposals.
  • Work closely with the regional Exploration Managers to stimulate the creation of ideas around current and future exploration activities within the region.
  • Ensure compliance and consistency with Premier’s Exploration Management System (EMS) standards and other corporate guidelines.
  • Mentor and develop national and expatriate exploration staff within the region, regarding technical competence and broader relationship management skills.
  • Work with the corporate Geoscience function to look at current process with the view to driving improvements and efficiencies, including improvement of the EMS and other corporate guidelines.

Desired Skills & Experience

Qualifications (Educational, professional or industry)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology (MSc/PhD well regarded).
  • Membership of professional and industry bodies.
Candidate Profile
Skills/experience
  • Minimum 15 years experience within Upstream Oil & Gas, working for an operator and/or consultancy, including senior technical and leadership roles. Operational experience preferred.
  • Expertise in Petroleum System analysis at a basin and prospect scale, including experience in basin modelling, sequence stratigraphy, application of biostratigraphy and chronostratigraphy, structural interpretation, petrophysics, formation evaluation planning, pore pressure analysis etc.
  • Broad experience across both Exploration and Development geoscience, and commercial awareness.
  • Good knowledge of exploration geophysics and experience in seismic interpretation.
  • Experience in prospect resource and risk assessment, review and audit.
  • Multi-national experience well regarded; SE Asia knowledge would be useful but is not essential.

Knowledge (e.g. systems, software, procedures, regulations)
  • Familiarity with relevant geoscience software (e.g. Kingdom, Petrel, volumetrics/risking software, basin modelling software, etc)

Attributes and Behaviours
  • Proven team leadership, mentorship and development of staff competencies, including working with culturally mixed workforces.
  • The ability to multi-task and the ability to work in a team of exploration professionals with varied disciplines, backgrounds and experience.
  • Strong communicator with all stakeholders across an organisation and comfortable working across disciplines (e.g. Sub-Surface, Drilling and Commercial).
  • Ability to communicate in a concise and directed manner with senior management in SE Asia and London HQ.
  • Experience in driving change and managing political friction and resistance amongst peers.
  • Willingness to travel to Singapore and HCMC on a regular basis, with occasional trips to London HQ.
  • Experience in successfully coaching and developing junior staff.
