Job Description


The Director, Industrial Engineering supports GNC’s Logistics operations by working to maximize productivity, lower costs and improve overall operating capabilities for the network. The Director will be the leading change agent for all enhancements to distribution operations and the logistics network providing cost containment, efficiencies, and continual process improvement to support the growth and strategic business objectives of GNC. This individual will lead the Industrial Engineering team and others to develop best in class strategies for nationwide distribution, fulfillment and logistics operations. The Director of Engineering will provide a thorough review of the current and future network, including but not limited to analysis and recommendations for transportation models, material handling, labor management systems and systems that support cost containment.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Initiate, develop and lead projects to design and/or improve existing distribution/ logistics systems and processes through regular analysis and evaluation
  • Plan, forecast, and budget for all projects and processes relating to Logistics functions including distribution, transportation and capital expenditures
  • Review, design, implement and execute Labor Management Systems incorporating best practices in layout design, standards, forecasting, incentives and recognition program development
  • Direct the maintenance function for the network by analyzing data available, researching and installing a preventative maintenance program that tracks our maintenance operating costs and parts utilization
  • Partner with MIS to communicate/direct system specifications for all aspects of the Logistics Network to include distribution, fulfillment, transportation and supply chain management software to identify and to apply technology for the continuous improvement of service, quality and performance
  • Evaluate and analyze logistics processes/procedures seeking opportunities to improve existing operating costs and speed to market
  • Direct the purchasing of supplies and service contracts for the Distribution Centers and Logistics areas
  • Provide regular communication regarding strategy and execution to senior level executives (VP/SVP/EVP); develop executive level presentations that communicate strategic plans and progress

Desired Skills & Experience

Minimum
  • BS Industrial Engineering/BSIE and at least 7 years of experience modifying/maximizing logistics operations in a retail or other Direct to Consumer environment

Preferred
  • MS Industrial Engineering/MSIE
  • Experience designing systems that utilize EDI, ASN, and UCC bar coding technology
  • Consulting experience, preferably in Retail or Direct to Consumer environment

Skills and Abilities
  • Must have demonstrated ability to translate abstract concepts into implementable initiatives
  • Must have significant experience managing strategic efforts in parallel with tactical implementations
  • Ability to understand business capabilities of technology solutions and incorporate into proposed solutions
  • Strategic thinker who can translate strategy into practical deliverables; ability to communicate business process changes as a mechanism to achieving outcomes
  • Must have experience managing both direct and indirect resources to achieve successful outcomes
  • Ability to challenge conventional thinking while maintaining trust and credibility
  • Financial skills with focus on building ROI benefits case / logical and financial models to justify projects
  • Organizational awareness with ability to identify the right people and approaches to getting things done

Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Manage Industrial Engineers directly, influence key personnel in Logistics Division

Work Environment / Travel / Physical Demands
  • Normal office environment along with distribution and operations environments
  • 20% travel to distribution centers in SC and AZ
