Job Description

Job Summary:

The Manager, Document Control is responsible for the quality control of all raw material specifications, finished product specifications, master change requests, and label script development for all products manufactured for or by Nutra Manufacturing, the manufacturing division of General Nutrition Corporation.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Qualifies all new vendor materials that are to be introduced. Writes all specifications for all new raw materials. Monitors, maintains, and updates raw material specifications as necessary to support QC, Purchasing, Product Development, Label script writing, and Regulatory functions.
  • Maintains all files for the change control of all formulas and bill of materials for all products manufactured.
  • Supervises input of all new formula Masters.
  • Supervises input of all Master Change Request for formulas manufactured. Supervises all input of all formula changes and all specification changes into MAPICS.
  • Responsible for the regulatory compliance of all labels for General Nutrition according to DSHEA regulations.
  • Responsible for the budget of the document control department.
  • Supervises 8-10 professional personnel engaged in Master formula, Master Change Request, label script development, proofing of labels, and authentication of documents for manufacture of products.
  • Hires all staff for the document control department. Responsible for hiring, performance reviews, and salary management of all document control personnel.
  • Interacts with all levels of management. Provides technical information to clients and in-house staff concerning product information.


Desired Skills & Experience

Minimum
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Food Science, Pharmacy, Pharmacology, Biology or other science related degree
  • 10+ years experience in a quality assurance position working with raw material specifications, finished product specifications, regulatory documentation, interpretation of regulations for the pharmaceutical, food, or dietary supplement industries.
  • At least 3 years of management/supervisory experience in a quality assurance environment

Preferred
  • Master’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Food Science, Pharmacy, Pharmacology, Biology or other science related degree
  • Experience in a compliance regulatory department either in food, pharmaceutical, or the dietary supplement industry

Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral, able to verbally express specifications by telephone and electronic communications
  • Computer skills with spreadsheets, e-mail, word processing, and ERP or database systems
  • Expert knowledge of document control protocol
  • Knowledge of cGMP regulations, CFR para 100, and knowledge of DHSEA regulations
  • Knowledge of chemical ingredients used in the vitamin and dietary supplement industry
  • Knowledge of the use of the Federal Register and interpretation of regulations

Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Manages a team of 6 including technicians, coordinators and auditors
