The Role
We are looking for a quality dynamic, suitably experienced Senior Metallurgist to join our Mt Carlton operation. The position is a fantastic opportunity to join a progressive and dynamic mining company.
Reporting to the Process Manager in a new operation, you will be responsible for the metallurgical and laboratory functions to ensure safe, high quality, environmentally responsible operations. Your ability to identify and implement processing improvement opportunities and cost efficiencies and to report and influence results will ensure you succeed in this role.

The Senior Metallurgist must be self-motivated and a self-starter with the ability to communicate effectively with persons across the organisation. Lateral thinking and initiative in finding better ways to do things is considered to be of the highest importance with effectively filling this role.
In order to be successful in this role we envisage that the successful candidate will use their significant industry experience and capabilities to:
  • Monitor and ensure key plant operating parameters achieve or exceed target;
  • Complete metallurgical accounting and reporting – to time and accuracy standards;
  • Provide technical support to the processing team to assist in achieving production targets;
  • Liaise and cooperate with maintenance and processing personnel to ensure optimum performance of the plant;
  • Develop and maintain a highly skilled technical team;
  • Play an active leadership role at the operation;
  • Be responsible for driving a modern successful safety culture that delivers a pro-active can-do approach with positive results;
  • Coordinate activities in and around the operation to achieve company budgets and forecasts;
  • Continuously seek opportunities for improvement in safe production practices, ore processing capability, metal recoveries;
  • Influence maintenance practices and cost of production.
Selection Criteria
The Senior Metallurgist must have the following experience and qualifications;
  • A minimum of 6 years' experience in metalliferous processing, with exposure to crushers, grinding mills, flotation circuits and tailings disposal.
  • Demonstrated experience in metallurgical accounting.
  • A proven track record in a supervisory role.
  • Experience with management of contractors.
  • Tertiary qualification in metallurgy or minerals processing.
