Position Synopsis
Reporting to the Superintendent Geosciences, we are seeking a proven Senior Geologist who will be responsible for the day to day management of a small group of professionals and support staff. The position offers an exciting opportunity to build a career working within a results-oriented, supportive and well resourced team.

As a Senior Geologist you will lead a team required to deliver consistent and high quality work deliverables. You will possess a strong work ethic, be action orientated, implement change and importantly, lead by example.

You will be responsible for ensuring all geological information and interpretations are of the highest quality and their inputs are used in the production planning cycle. You will also be responsible for ensuring all geological information is integrated into the Resource Block Model, as well as managing the movement of Potential Mineralisation and Inferred Resources to Measured Resources.


Employment Conditions
An attractive remuneration package, commensurate with your qualifications and experience will apply. This is a full time, permanent, FIFO role from Brisbane or Townsville, working an 8 days on, 6 days off roster.

BHP Billiton Cannington mine provides onsite accommodation with laundry and meal services, as well as sporting and gym facilities.
An attractive relocation package to Townsville is on offer for the successful candidate.

Desired Skills & Experience


Skills & Experience
Your degree in Geology will be complimented by extensive previous underground and open-pit metalliferous mining experience. You will have advanced computer literacy skills in using Datamine, Surpac and acQuire. Intimate knowledge of Sampling Theory and QAQC, Mine Reconciliation, Resource Modelling and Grade Estimation techniques are essential and will form the selection criteria for short listing this position.

You will also be responsible for the preparation of LOA drill programmes and schedules as well as 5YP group budgets. Excellent communication skills will be required, as well as the ability to prepare and present reports (budgets, cost reports) to senior management. This is also a strategic role, so the ability to work with and across other departments, such as long term Resource Development and Planning is required.

Mentoring will form a significant component of your work and you will be responsible for the introduction and management of competency-based training for the group.
