Description

 
The Mining Engineer’s primary responsibility is the design and implementation of effective plans, schedules, and cost estimates for the development of mining properties.  
They are also responsible for identifying, quantifying and implementing projects and programs to reduce the cost of manufacturing elemental phosphorus, with emphasis on mining costs.  In these roles, they select, direct, review and approve the work of outside contractors and consultants, in addition to the engineering studies and work they conduct.  
They work closely with the on-site contractor and Department and plant staff to accurately develop and implement cost effective, environmentally sound mining strategies, which insure Monsanto’s continued right to operate. 
Prepares detailed maps, cross sections, or other drawings from geologic, topographic, cost, production, and other data. 
The Mining Engineer works closely with the Mining staff members to conduct and monitor ore mining, blending and transport, and to outline and monitor overburden removal activities.  
Assists, as directed, with MSHA, BLM, State of Idaho Department of Lands, other governmental inspections, and various corporate sponsored audits and inspections. 
 

Qualifications

 
  • Bachelor of Science degree in mining engineering,
  • Minimum of two (2) years of mining or related experience in a minerals related assignment.
  • Experience with various mining planning techniques and procedures.
  • Working knowledge and familiarity with computer based mine design, surveying and drafting software.
  • Ability and desire to accept and achieve higher levels of challenge and function in increasing levels of responsibility
  • Demonstrated support of and active involvement in ES&H programs working to achieve an incident free workplace
  • Demonstrated support to create a winning work environment where all individuals and teams can achieve their full potential
Desirable qualifications for this position are:
  • Past experience in topographic and land surveying.
  • Experience at a mining or quarry site.
  • Knowledge of phosphate or sedimentary mining practices.
  • Proficient computer skills, including, Mine Planning Software (Gemcon),  CAD,  GIS, programming and maintenance of systems.
  • Experience in storm water facility design and management.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team based environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development through personal involvement in professional societies and licensing.
