Power Systems Engineer

Job Description

As a member of Energy Consulting, the successful candidate will be an active contributor to GE business initiatives related to power systems equipment and services. This position requires a wide range of skills including:

- Preparing technical study proposals based on expressed customer needs

- Conducting technical analysis, including dynamic simulation of power system response and performance

- Contributing to multiple project teams to perform technical analysis of electric power systems
- Organizing project teams and guiding the work of individual contributors to the team effort

- Managing project technical work, cost, and schedule.

- Compiling results of technical analysis to produce detailed, concise, analytical reports

- Documenting and presenting project findings and deliverables

- Contributing to general systems engineering activities including studies, internal product and service support, sales and marketing functions

- Quickly learning new technologies and adapting team capabilities to meet the needs of the industry and of GE

- Developing technical understanding of electrical characteristics of GE generation and transmission products and their integration to electrical grids

- Conducting technical marketing activities in latin america (i.e., using technical analysis to develop and support market opportunities for power system products and services)

- Enhancing industry knowledge and presenting technical content in customer seminars, regional forums, technical workshops, and professional society conferences (mostly in latin america)

- Actively participating in a global working environment where teamwork, quality, customer service and innovation are prized

- Providing product development and technical support to GE product businesses as required

Desired Skills & Experience

- MS or other advanced degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems Engineering and 4+ years experience in Power Systems engineering, including:

- Demonstrated experience in
o technical performance analysis of electric power systems, or
o electrical design/harmonic analysis /generator excitation and prime mover controls of industrial systems with captive generation
o Experience with loadflow, stability, and transient analysis. Proficiency with at least one loadflow/short circuit/stability (PSSE, PSLF, ANAREDE/ANAFAS/ANATEM, Digsilent, etc) or transient analysis (ATP, EMTP-RV, PSCAD, etc) simulation packages.

- Ability to perform engineering analysis and design, and to develop engineering solutions in a team environment, and to provide technical consulting services to customers

- Strong project management/team skills. Ability to lead and contribute to project teams conducting technical analysis and to effectively represent the team to our customers

- Demonstrated ability in mentoring less experienced engineers

- Strong technical and analytical skills, written and oral communication skills

- Willingness to travel (10-25% is typical)

- Fluent in written and spoken English.

- Fluent in written and spoken Portuguese or Spanish.
