Role Purpose:
•The Programming Lead, Microsoft Online Media & Publishing (MSOMP) Americas is a key player in the creation of the consumer experience within AMERICAS. S/he will aim to attract, engage and retain high-value audiences across all services through exceptional content and connect them to advertisers to drive revenue. AMERICAS includes Canada, Latin America and Latino markets.
•S/he will act as a thought leader to all Producers and Executive Producers and their staff across the AMERICAS region. His / Her leadership will enable the development of content-rich experiences that includes user generated content, social networking, search and video.
•S/he will build the editorial community within AMERICAS markets through regular communication and connection and engage with Editorial community leaders in other regions..
•S/he will work with the key content providers from across the AMERICAS media landscape to realize the best user experience across MSOMP.
•Using the globally defined editorial vision and the globally defined network personality for MSN.com, s/he will define the AMERICAS regional flavor. S/he will do this in collaboration with the executive producers and heads of programming.
•The Americas programming lead will work with the International Programming director, the Appex team to develop and publish The Bing Daily Apps.
•Using the global entry point and social strategy, s/he will localize it and execute on it for the AMERICAS region.
•An expert on publishing platform, process and workflow issues, s/he will engage with engineering teams and represent AMERICAS markets in developing publishing systems that work best for the regions consumers and editors.
•MSOMP is planning to ramp up the volume and quality of content shared across the MSN network and this leader will drive strategy and execution for this. S/he will focus on the areas of Photo Gallery, Article, video sharing. S/he will support roll out new verticals to AMERICAS markets (eg MSN Now, Autos, Celebrity). S/he will create impactful editorial solutions for key events such as World Cup 2014 etc.
•S/he will encourage, monitor and sustain market EP participation in Content Sharing initiatives.
Team/Department Mission
•MSOMP is a profitable business group that is part of the Online Service Division. It is in 54 countries across the word. MSOMP develops content propositions to attract users across the MSN Network and the Windows 8 Bing Daily Apps.
•MSOMP’s current business goal is to drive audience active preference. MSOMP will this goal by supporting publishing across PC, mobile and tablet platforms, by developing a social strategy and by developing a real-time programming strategy.
With active preference, the MSN audience will become more valuable to advertisers. MSN will monetize this audience increasing its profit. At the same time the MSN audience will continue to drive Bing.
Key Accountabilities
•Develop a strong AMERICAS programming community, particularly with the Editors in Chief in markets.
•Identify best practices for replication and worst practices to be eliminated and learned from across AMERICAS markets and share across regions.
•Contribute to the overall network vision and strategy in partnership with other key MSOMP stakeholders (editorial, planning, engineering, business development, custom solutions, marketing, design, content partners etc). Drive and model cross-group collaboration, coordination, and communication for key initiatives. Ensure any AMERICAS requirements for content are clearly defined to engineering (esp. platform).
•Feed into the Choose MSN brand strategy development, focusing on content experiences including real time, search, and social.
•Create an editorial voice and personality for AMERICAS that reflects the sensibilities, aspirations and interests of the target audience segments and work with market EPs / programming leaders to tune it appropriately.
•Lead Content Sharing initiatives to drive increased engagement and cost and resource efficiencies. Engage with executive producers and Programming leads where present and drive alignment to global initiatives.
•Create strategic programming and promotion in conjunction with executive producers and marketing. Evaluate large content opportunities in conjunction with market EPs and take advantage of MSOMP’s global capabilities when presenting to partners and advertisers.
•Work with Business Development and producers to define optimal partnering strategy for broad content focus areas (sports, entertainment, etc.), and assist Business Development in identifying and negotiating the most efficient deals as needed for multi-national deployment.
•Work with editors and engineering teams on all issues to do with publishing platform, process, and workflow. Represent the markets and editors’ views and requirements to ensure improvements in efficiency and creativity.
•Influence entry point management and overall network design to drive user acquisition and engagement within each site experience, across the network and outside on social network sites such as Facebook/Twitter and enabling new Entry Points.
•Drive innovative increase in transfers to Bing, programming Bing and creating ‘search as content’ across multiple markets.
•Support the MSOMP Media Academy and ensure its success across the region.
•Work with field sales teams to design and offer compelling solutions to advertisers and content providers.
•Participate as a member of the Editorial Management team, contributing to strategic direction and planning decisions.
Key Success Criteria: S/he will share the same KPIs as executive producers: 40% audience growth (UUs), 40% engagement (PVs/UU), 20% revenue activation with sales
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
1) Essential Experience
•The ideal candidate will be a seasoned online professional with strategic media sensibilities and experience to be a dynamic leader and manager.
•The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in Latin-America
•Excellent written and verbal English and Spanish and/or Portuguese skills required
•Position will be based in México City, São Paulo ( Brazil) or Fort Lauderdale (USA)
2) Technical/Functional Skills:
•10+ years of operational level experience in an online media setting, across multiple markets and/or regions.
•Passion for online and multimedia.
•Understands and promotes the strategic direction of MSOMP
•Develops comprehensive business plans, and works through others to achieve objectives
•Understands, and utilizes diverse problem-solving approaches. Actively seeks input from others
•Able to absorb and integrate diverse information, and apply it to innovative courses of action
•Actively seeks out and solves problems with input of key stakeholders
•Recognizes the need for course corrections early, and takes the necessary steps
•Recognizes the need for change and enlists leaders to become MSOMP change agents
•Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
•Proven business analysis and planning experience
•Strong project management, organizational and entrepreneurial skills.
