The opportunity

We are looking for a Process Superintendent, based at Port Hedland, to ensure management and improvement of all technical aspects of salt growth as well as washing and quality assurance methods of the Port Hedland Operations within defined targets.

Located in the Pilbara and Gascoyne regions of Western Australia, Dampier Salt is the world's largest exporter of salt and comprises three operations in Port Hedland, Dampier and Lake MacLeod. Produced through a sustainable process of solar evaporation of sea water, we reliably deliver high quality salt, essential for making thousands of products used in everyday life.

What the role entails

This position is a great opportunity for an individual with strong problem solving and planning skills. Residentially based in Port Hedland (5 days on and 2 days off roster) and reporting to the Manager Operations, you will be:
  • Managing people efficiently and safely whilst ensuring that Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) targets are achieved
  • Managing and improving the quantity and quality of the stock control & inventory levels
  • Developing long term strategies of the salt fields and balancing the salt growth in terms of the production requirements to provide a consistent high quality product
  • Managing the brine supply, crystallisers, processing plant and onsite laboratory operations
  • Ensuring lab analysis conforms with the “Methods for Salt Analysis Standards” and issuing ship certificates promptly and accurately
  • Managing cost within the process area to ensure budget targets are met and cost saving initiatives are identified and implemented
What you will need for this role

To succeed in this exciting and challenging role, you will have:
  • A tertiary qualification in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or a related science discipline
  • Experience in processing i.e. Manufacturing, Chemical, Dairy or Mining industry
  • Sound knowledge of sampling, quality control, laboratory systems and processes
  • Strong Microsoft excel, problem solving and planning skills
