Job Description

Pacific Biosciences is looking for a Robotics Software Engineer to develop control software for existing and future robotics components of our DNA sequencer. The engineer will be responsible for developing software to perform high-precision robotic manipulation and liquid handling, control workflows, and perform inventory of consumables. In addition to hardware control, the software will need to detect actuator/sensor failures, identify recovery options, and communicate status and state to the user interface and logs. The engineer must have excellent oral and written communication skills in order to be able to effectively interface with mechanical, quality, and manufacturing engineers.

Desired Skills & Experience

Bachelors and/or Masters in Computer Science, Engineering or other related discipline.

Minimum of 5 to 7 years of industry or equivalent work experience.



Experience with robotics and motion control (servos, steppers, encoders, PID loops) required.



Fluency in Object Oriented Design and Development (C++ and either C# or Java) required.


Experience with embedded Linux development, Linux kernel and device drivers strongly desired.



Microcontroller and DSP experience desired.



Python experience very helpful.



Experience with image analysis and machine vision (preferably Halcon or OpenCV) is a plus.



Must be a self-starter with excellent oral and written communication skills, able to write or be provided with a functional spec and prototype hardware and deliver robust finished product.
