BAE Systems are currently looking to recruit a Project Leader to be based in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria. This is an exciting opportunity to build upon existing Project Engineering skills in the high profile area of Nuclear Engineering and Safety Case support. You will be reporting to the Senior Project Manager within the newly formed Nuclear Programme Management Office and will be working with key stakeholders on Nuclear Safety and Technical related issues providing Project Management support to the Heads of Boat delivering workable solutions. If you are new to either Project Management or Nuclear areas then this is an ideal development opportunity for future career prospects.
As a Project Leader, your duties will include but not limited to:
Responsible for managing the day-to-day management of one or more Nuclear related projects.
Support the Implementation of the Nuclear Programme operating model and establish agreed changes necessary to improve the integration and timely delivery of the multiple Boat programme across all Unit 5 programmes.
Support the management of the Article 170 contract supporting demonstration of compliance across the Licence Conditions including agreed Change Proposals. This will include Control Account Management, budget setting and performance review. Manage the conduct, implementation and delivery of changes to safety case related activities (e.g. APNSC / TLSC transition and PSR)
Provide Project Management expertise to enable improved visibility and understanding of cross-Boat and overall Unit 5 Programme status enabling pro-active identification and resolution of emergent nuclear related risks and issues.
Identify and deliver change management improvements across the Nuclear Programme including successor related.
Act as Deputy to the Senior Project Manager - Nuclear Support, and lead where necessary, resolution of cross-boat nuclear issues
Ensure that all aspects of the projects are fully defined to ensure customer requirements are achieved in accordance with all business and commercial criteria.
Develop and maintain coherent, fully integrated, resourced and workable project plans and budgets.
Develop accurate estimates in support of bids, annual budgets or cost to completion, and analyse 'spend to date' data.
Lead, control and monitor projects so that they are delivered to agreed time, cost and quality requirements, regularly reviewing and reporting on progress against plan and where necessary, intervening to resolve issues which threaten delivery to plan.
Lead and manage production of various progress reports i.e. contract status, risk, MoD visibility reports etc. using appropriate tools such as EVM. Develop, maintain and manage key relationships with sub-contractors, customers and other stakeholders to ensure all deliverables are achieved and that issues are effectively addressed, and to facilitate effective and profitable business development. Build and maintain effective liaison with all functional groups involved in project/programme delivery.
Lead and manage the development, agreement and resolution of project risk, assumptions, dependencies and exclusions.

Desired Skills & Experience

As a Project Leader, your skills and qualifications will ideally include:
Foundation Degree/ HNC/ HND/ Certificate in Project Management or equivalent level of qualification
LCM Assessor Specialist
Professional Qualification/ APMQ/ Risk Certificate Level 1
Nuclear Powered Warship Safety Course (would be desirable)

Salary: £40,000 depending on experience

Grade: S5
