Role Details

Gold Fields Australia is currently seeking a Senior Engineer: Mining to join their Underground Athena Hamlet Mining Team at St Ives Gold Mine.

Reporting to the Unit Manager: Underground Mining, you will be responsible for facilitating the optimal extraction of gold ore from mining operations through the leadership of a comprehensive production planning, scheduling service that achieves short to medium production and development targets ensuring maximum return to the business in alignment with EHS standards.

This role is offered on an 8 days on 6 days off roster and would require the incumbent to be residential in Kalgoorlie or Kambalda. Fly in fly out options are also available.

Key responsibilities will include;
  • Coordinate the activities of the planning, production and ventilation engineering employees and contractors in carrying out the daily work plan and ensure that their activities are consistently aligned with meeting operational targets;
  • Secure the success of the mine through the achievement of planned production and safety targets by collaboratively developing and monitoring annual work plans for the team;
  • Ensure that all members of the mining team have clear understanding and direction of objectives by leading and controlling the coordination of weekly mine production planning meetings, ensuring deliverables are accurately recorded and distributed including field directions and work instructions;
  • Ensure the business can make informed decisions by developing, implementing and monitoring of reporting information (daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annually) for managing target delivery, safety, identifying and planning short term extraction strategies, critical path and high exposure areas;
  • Demonstrate commitment to continuous improvement by contributing to the optimisation of systems, processes and practices, regularly reviewing and identifying new opportunities, developing these on instruction;
  • Organisation of short term contractors to see that projects are complete on time and on budget;
  • Provide ongoing leadership and mentoring for production and technical teams;
  • Ability to act as the Deputy Underground Manager will be essential to the role.

Key factors to your success include;
  • Degree in Mining Engineering;
  • Supervisory/Management training;
  • 5 years underground engineering with experience in jumbo development, longhole drilling, blasting, ventilation, projects, planning and scheduling - preferably gold;
  • Exposure to contract mining environments;
  • First Class Mine Managers Certificate of Competency is essential for the incumbent;
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite and mining software such as Mine 24D, Datamine, I-Rings and Mine CAD.
