Job Description


McConnell Dowell is a major engineering, construction, building and maintenance contractor delivering infrastructure to the building, mining, oil and gas, petrochemical, power, social & public infrastructure, transport and water sectors.

The Group has an average revenue of $2bn and employs approximately 8,000 personnel and has a broad construction capability in building, civil, fabrication, electrical, maintenance and mechanical works with specialist engineering capabilities in pipeline, tunnelling, marine and rail construction.

Notable projects underway in the region include QCLNG, APLNG, GLNG, Hay Point and Gold Coast Rapid Transit Project.

We are currently have an exciting opportunity for a competent and self-motivated Welding/Coating Inspector with a minimum of 5 years experience working on large diameter pipeline projects to join our APLNG project.

This position is site based with excellent remuneration and camp facilities. The Welding/Coating Inspector will report to the Quality Control Engineer.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Interpret codes, standards and project specifications to clarify ambiguities
  • Ensure calibration of field inspections tools and equipments is correct
  • Conduct inspections in welding, coating, NDT, Hydrotest and other areas as per QC plans and procedures
  • Generate and send notifications for inspections as per the demands of ITP’s
  • Coordinate field tests with all internal and external parties
  • Report routine inspection activities to lead QCI/QC engineer as required
  • Prepare and compile reports on tests undertaken for inclusion in relevant records
Qualifications and Skills Required

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in working on a large diameter pipeline project
  • A minimum of a diploma through a degree related field of Engineering
  • Certification in Welding/Coating/NDT in line with CSWIP/BGAS or equivalent
  • Knowledge of Australian codes and standards
  • Extensive Supervision and Inspection of Welding and Fabrication
  • Possess reasonable knowledge of applicable National and International Codes and Standards
