PREMIER FIELD ENGINEER - SQL Server

PFE is looking for a technical & passionate PFE to help our customers with the latest generation of SQL Server.

Do you love to solve problems and help customer improve the quality of their SQL Server implementations? If so, this is a great opportunity for you. You will be working with customers and partners supporting SQL Server.

We are looking for a PFE with experience in technical design, driving projects, managing and building new relationships with internal and external customers and ISV partners, and great team spirit. This person must be able to drive support consulting engagements, write technical and non-technical communications, and work effectively with our partners and customers to help make them successful in supporting their IT infrastructure.

Solid technical developer skills with TSQL and solid understanding of all areas of performance tuning and optimization of SQL Server databases are required. Candidate is expected to work effectively in cross-group situations and be able to drive towards integration-oriented solutions.

The ideal candidate should have at least 5 years’ experience with current and previous versions of SQL Server. A deep technical background in Windows and SQL Server is critical to success in this role. This includes but is not limited to performance tuning, database architecture, configuration, replication, high availability, backup and recovery, mission critical systems, very large databases, maintenance and patch management. The ideal candidate would also be strong in one or more of Integration Services, Reporting Services, Analysis Services, and Cluster Services.


The purpose of the Premier Field Engineer (PFE) position is to provide Microsoft customers with reliable technical solutions to the complex integration problems associated with business solutions built on the Microsoft platform. The PFE Team supports a diverse variety of technical solutions built with Microsoft technology and products. Typical tasks performed in this role include specific problem isolation and correction, user mode debugging, conducting application design and supportability reviews, performance tuning, application stability consulting/troubleshooting, and porting/migration assistance, configuration management, pre-rollout testing and general IT support consulting.

Strong business background in Fortune 500 and/or experience with software consulting firms is desired. Overnight travel is required. This position is intended to be in the Chicago area, and travel requirements vary based upon customer/partner software development cycles and changing needs, and could be around 50%.

BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience required. MCSD, MCAD, or other applicable advanced certification is strongly preferred, but not required at hire; however, must be obtained within 12 months of hire, however we will consider related field (or equivalent) experience.
