Vale’s Integra Coal Operation includes an open cut and underground mine. They are modern operations, well reputed as safe, reliable suppliers of coking and thermal coal to the export market and has ample coal reserves underpinning the mine’s future. The mines are located 15 minutes from Singleton and 80 minutes from the city of Newcastle.

In 2013, the Integra Underground Operation will commission a state of the art Caterpillar longwall system. This is an exciting growth opportunity for the mine and key to the mine’s future. Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Longwall Superintendent is responsible for realising the full potential of the new longwall, whilst in full compliance with the safety, production, budgetary and environmental objectives of the mine. The position is also responsible for the development and implementation of the highest operating standards for the longwall.

Some of the key responsibilities include:
  • Leading the longwall teams and engaging them in continuous improvement of work processes
  • Maximising the utilisation and availability of allocated resources, manning and equipment.
  • Timely reporting and review of operational and maintenance performance.
  • Identifying variances from the mine design and schedule, investigating the causes of these variances and taking remedial action.
  • Ensure that coal quality and seam horizon is being maintained.
  • Participating in company decision-making processes and the development of annual mine plans.
  • Overseeing the project management of Longwall changeovers and ensuring longwall changeovers are completed on time and to budget.
  • Liaising with support functions such as Tech Services, HR and Engineering and Maintenance.

Desired Skills & Experience

Got what it takes?
The successful candidate will ideally have:
  • Extensive Longwall experience
  • Supervisory / Leadership experience – management of personnel, contract labour and OEM’s.
  • Exposure to budget development and implementation
  • Desirable - Statutory qualifications e.g. Second or Third Class Certificates of Competency
