  The role
  SMEC SA has designed and supervised the construction of hundreds of bridges in South Africa and internationally. We have developed a specialised team of bridge design engineers capable of designing to the highest technological standards. The objective of the Structural Division of SMEC SA is to provide appropriate design expertise and innovation and a prompt and efficient service
  
  This position is for a bridge design engineer who is passionate about bridges, who wants to work on great projects and who has the skills and ability for rapid advancement.
  Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out detailed design and documentation
  
  • Preparation of concept and tender designs
  
  • Provide prompt responses to site queries
  
  • Direction and supervision of drawing production and revision
  
  • Review and checking of design and documentation on designated projects
  
  • Deliver the tasks/projects within time and budget and to the required standard
  
  • Provide technical assistance, support and training to junior engineers
  
  • Maintaining client satisfaction on projects involved
  
  • Liaising with the Section Head and designated draftspersons on issues relating to the designated projects and the delivery of designated work packages on projects
  
  • Strictly adhere to SMEC SA's QMS and OH&S procedures
  Key Qualifications and Experience
  • BSc Engineering Degree
  
  • Professional registration
  • Specialist project/contract manager with bridge structures experience
  
  • Knowledge, skill and experience of design codes, guidelines and standards
  
  • Demonstrated design experience in different construction forms and methods
  
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge
  
  • Knowledge of analysis and design software
  
  • Knowledge of QMS, EMS and OH&S systems
  • Good communication skills – oral and written
  
  • Professional delivery and appearance to ensure SMEC SA image is maintained
  
  • Courteous and business orientated manner when communicating with stakeholders to foster and promote good working relations
  
  • Co-operative and flexible work style to work in a team environment
  
  • Willingness to learn new skills and acquire new knowledge
  
  • Ability to apply new knowledge, and able to work under pressure
