The Orica site at Yarwun comprises two major complexes being one of the world's largest Industrial Grade Ammonium Nitrate Complex and the Sodium Cyanide Plant. The Role

Reporting to the Manager - Maintenance, the Maintenance Engineering Superintendent will take overall responsibility for the ongoing maintenance of all plant fixed assets. In doing so, the incumbent and there team will be the owners of all fixed plant. Each member will own sections of plant which will make them responsible for Asset Availability and Maintenance budgets, Furthermore you will ensure a safe working environment for both your team and external contractors.

In addition to the above the incumbent will be responsible for but not limited to:


  • Direct accountability for the availability of the asset

  • Financial responsibility for budgets, forecasts and cost controls

  • Management of a Plant Engineering staff including contractors

  • Key contributor to the strategy based maintenance programs on site and feedback to Reliability team

  • Manages and evaluates engineering & staff performance. Establishes performance requirements and personal development targets for assigned staff

  • Participate in site based projects, improvement strategies, maintenance & engineering standards on site.

  • Leads small project related maintenance improvement activities

The Criteria

The successful candidate will have ideally completed tertiary qualifications in a relevant engineering discipline; additional to this you will possess a thorough mechanical/electrical technical knowledge and have experience leading a team of maintenance specialists. Although not a pre-requisite a background in the power, petro chemical or gas plants would be highly regarded or experience working in a continuous manufacturing/process environment.

You will be someone who is well developed in Root Cause Analysis, adept in problem solving & have the demonstrated ability to make quality decisions. Experience across hazard identification and analysis would be well regarded as well as the experience in safety management. You will be results focused leader with the ability to motivate the people around you to deliver a high quality service to the site.
