Our client, an emerging hard rock producer with a developing operation on the east coast is currently seeking a Planning Superintendent.

The primary focus of this role is the management of all mine planning and supervision of Mining Engineers, along with ensuring that all reports and schedules are accurate. You will be leading the mine planning to develop daily, weekly, monthly and annual plans to the specified standards.


Reporting to the Mine Manager your key responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinate and manage the short to medium term mine plans
  • Prepare the long term life of mine plans
  • Facilitate the preparation of mine designs and implement in the operation
  • Preparing the layout and development of the mine site and extraction procedures
  • Resolve mining design issues and converse with the technical services team to reach the best economical result.
  • Overseeing the planning and designing of the drill and blast patterns
  • Monitoring and reconciling mining performance against planning and look for ways to continuously improve
  • Ensuring that mining operations are carried out in a safe and efficient manner
  • Mine scheduling and technical support
  • Provide accurate reports and technical advice to the mine management team
  • Supervise and mentor Mining Engineers
This role would suit a Senior Mining Engineer or Planning Superintendent with the following background:

  • Tertiary qualifications in mining engineering
  • 6-10 years of experience in metalliferous open cut operations
  • Worked as a Senior Open Pit Mining Engineer or higher with metalliferous mining
  • Open pit planning and report experience
  • Excellent people management, mentoring skills and communication skills
  • Analytical mindset and strong problem solving skills
  • Emphasis in maintaining a safe workplace environment
  • A high level of self motivation and enthusiasm
  • Extensive operational experience
  • Experience with Surpac software
