BHP Billiton Iron Ore is one of the world's leading suppliers of iron ore. The Company's operations currently involve an integrated system of seven mines, more than 1,600 kilometres of rail and two separate world class port facilities; Nelson Point and Finucane Island at Port Hedland.
Position
Reporting to the Senior Control & Electrical Engineer within the Finucane Island Maintenance team, your duties will include:
  • Ensure conformance with the BHP Billiton Charter, the BHP Billiton Group Level Documents, Code of Conduct and relevant statutory obligations.
  • An overriding commitment to health, safety, environment responsibility and sustainable development.
  • Administration and maintenance of the Nelson Point Plant Monitoring and Control System (PMAC), which comprises of various Network switches, hubs and converters, in excess of 80 work stations, 10 servers, and 6 stand alone work stations, whilst meeting departmental goals in regard to safety.
  • Provide technical support to users of the control network (Operations and Maintenance) – including hardware and software infrastructure at Nelson Point and at Finucane Island.
  • Perform configuration changes to the system as requested by Company personnel and coordinate any external changes to be carried out for both Nelson Point and Finucane Island.
  • Provide technical support for project work relating to the system and site assistance for project implementation.
  • Provide training to users as requested on the operation of the system.
  • Liaising with CSC in regards to work station equipment setting up and repairs/replacements.
  • Provide on-call support on a shift arrangement for PMAC, PLC, VVVF, Instrumentation and general electrical faults.
  • Execute work plans as directed by Senior members of the team.
  • Identify and implement control system improvement opportunities.

Skills and Experience
As the successful candidate you will possess the following:
  • Minimum current C class manual drivers licence
  • Minimum of Electrical trade certificate, with a current WA 'A' Grade Electrical license or be eligible to apply, or be endorsed as an Electrical Fitter or Electrical Mechanic or both
  • Bachelor of Technology, Advanced Diploma of Technology/Engineering or Diploma in Electrical Engineering or equivalent is desirable - or a willingness to do such further training.

Location
You will be based at Port Hedland on a fly-in fly-out [insert roster] roster. Port Hedland is home to our port and rail operations and is the largest regional centre in North West Australia. The outstanding facilities at the FIFO villages include a fully equipped gym, tv lounge and games rooms, with access to sporting facilities close by. All rooms at the villages have their own en-suite bathroom, television, refrigerator and air-conditioning.
