blinkx (LSE AIM: BLNX) is the Internet Media platform powered by CORE, the world’s most advanced video engine. blinkx links viewers with content distributors and monetizes those interactions through advertising.
blinkx is looking for 3 Software Engineers for its data and search teams to work the Cambridge tech office. Recent college graduates are ENCOURAGED to apply.
You’ll need to learn our technology stack and existing code base, so if you have a specific area of expertise you want to stay in, this may not be the right role for you. A few technologies you might be working include Mongo DB, Hadoop, MySQL, Redis, C, C++, PHP, Perl, Python, multitudes of video encoding software, Javascript, DREs, IDOL, node.js and other cool things that you've never heard of. Your job will be a mixture of working within the existing stack and creating new exciting technology from the ground up. We expect that you won’t be familiar with most of the above technologies, but if you’ve started down a LAMP stack route, then you are on the right path.
Whether its data-mining to pull out the gems from countless terabytes of information, or working on speech to text transcription algorithms, map reducing, absorbing data from millions of videos, squeezing the last millisecond of performance out of an web application or coming up with a new way of understanding the way people perceive the world through computers – we do it all.
We have offices in San Francisco, Boston, Seattle, Phoenix, New York and, of course, Cambridge in the UK where we started out. We make occasional visits to the other offices to work alongside the other teams, so the job may involve some international travel.
Desired Skills & Experience
Responsibilities:- Designing, coding and debugging critical processes within our data infrastructure.
- Software testing and quality assurance.
- Taking ownership of software processes and architectures.
- Be part of the blinkx tech team. This means from day one your ideas count. As a small, but successful team, we recognize that sometimes the freshest ideas are the best. We want you to contribute to the team, not just do a job.
Requirements:
- Know your way around linux
- Have a passion for open source software
- Have the ability to learn new things quickly
- Be a language agnostic developer, you’ll recognize that it’s not the specific language you code in, or tool you work with that counts, it’s the end result.
- Have a good degree from a good university, preferably in a computer science related discipline although candidates from maths and science backgrounds will also be considered providing you can demonstrate good knowledge of coding
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently
- Be amenable to occasional international travel. Usually to San Francisco, New York or Boston.
