Job Description





Cobham is seeking a Senior Software Systems Control Engineer. The Senior Software Systems Control Engineer will perform development activities that include: system-level design and analysis of positioner systems and payloads, software (C, C++) development of positioner critical control loops and tuning algorithms, system test and verification, and manufacturing support of new product introductions and legacy systems. The Senior Software Systems Control Engineer will enjoy working in a product development group that experiences a broad range of technologies and software/system design opportunities.


Responsibilities:


• Develop and design complex precision robotic positioning systems and software with an application emphasis on precision pointing of RF communications and electo-optic payloads.
• Analyze customer specifications, provide system level solutions, and assure interoperability between system components and overall systems capabilities.
• Analyze positioner control system requirements and develop innovative control solutions using servo compensation strategies in the digital domain with the use of advanced simulation tools.
• Write embedded control software (C, C++) for both Linux OS based and non-OS based embedded hardware. Develop critical control loop code and the ability to tune control code to application specific payloads (RF, IR, video). Enhance and restructure existing code modules. Create detailed design specifications to support internal product lifecycle sustainability.
• Perform test and integration of system and software. Create Graphical User Interface applications interfacing to embedded control functions for support of test and integration, and customer demonstrations.
• Transition new product designs to manufacturing and provide engineering support for existing products in production. Collaborate routinely with cross functional members of the team to optimize design trade-offs and continuously improve product reliability and manufacturability.
• Interface directly with customers to ensure product design compliance with specifications and provide customer software and hardware field support.
Partner with program management to insure on-time and within-budget delivery of products.
• Work with business development to provide technical proposal responses to RFP/RFQs.
• Work directly with subject matter experts at remote in-country engineering design center.
• Expected travel during first 6 months of employment is 25% for training at design center.
• Subsequent travel is expected to be 10%.


Minimum Requirements:


• BS in Systems, Software, Electrical Engineering, or Physics
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in Embedded Software and Systems development focusing on new product development and introduction
• Direct experience implementing servo control software and tuning algorithms.
• Strong knowledge of C/C++ and Linux
• Graphical User Interface programming experienced required.
• Experience in bringing up new CPU based hardware systems

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Desired Skills & Experience

* BS in Systems, Software, Electrical Engineering, or Physics
