Job Description


The Area Process Control Engineer is a member of the Process Control Group. The primary responsibility is to support the discrete refinery area they are assigned to with short and medium term process controls support. The Area Process Control Engineer works closely with the Area Process Engineer, DCS Specialist, Console Operators, and fellow Area Process Control Engineers to manage the control system and it's performance.

The key functions of the Process Control Engineer are:

• Work independently and with Operations and Engineers to develop and implement improvements to the process via the control system
• Maintain, troubleshoot, and enhance existing control schemes including advanced control applications such as DMCplus
• Tune control loops
• Provide control support for refinery units, and work as a team to support Process Control Engineers at other units within the Whiting Business Unit
• Identify opportunities to improve safe and reliable operations
• Participate in HAZOP's, the management of change process, and root cause failure analysis
• Lead and partner with the User Interface Specialist to design new operator graphics and enhance existing graphics
• Lead and partner with the Process Control hardware and computing Network Specialists to ensure the availability and reliability of the control system
• Collaborate with Operators to troubleshoot and solve control issues and enhance existing controls
• Network with Control Engineers at other BP facilities to share best practices

Bachelor of Science in Engineering OR 15 years process controls experience required

Required
Minimum of 5 years experience with process control in a 24/7 environment working with distributed control systems such as Honeywell TDC 3000 or Emerson DeltaV
Deep technical knowledge and leadership in the Process Control discipline area.
Working knowledge of Excel, MS Office, Honeywell CL, and SAP maintenance related functions.
Ability to work well with a wide range of disciplines and management, external partners, regulators and contractors.
Additional engineering experience to include process safety and/or operations.
Self motivated, accustomed to being in positions of responsibility and accountability.
Good planning, communication skills and team work.
Ability to effectively prioritize multiple tasks & responsibilities.

Preferred
Knowledge of industry and government standards such as ISA, IEC, NEC, API requirements for process facilities.
