Sr. Paint Process Engineer - Thomas Brooke International- Western MI

Sr. Paint Process Engineer
Thomas Brooke International- Western MI (Greater Grand Rapids, Michigan Area)

Job Description

We’re looking for a resourceful, pro-active Senior Paint Process Engineer who can improve on an already good thing in a 2K liquid spray application environment, creating technologically advanced decorative finishing processes for automotive trim.

Private, financially secure, innovative company with great loyalty to its employees. Western MI location.

  • Do you enjoy thinking laterally, coming up with creative ideas and solutions using equipment, ideas or principles from other industries or disciplines?
  • Do you see ways to improve systems and processes that others miss?
  • Do you like to take the initiative in problem solving and process improvement?

Work in an environment that gives you multi-dimensional involvement in the paint process, from the long-term development stage to immediate process improvement projects. Get involved in all aspects of high-volume, high-margin decorative paint application including cross-functional input and support.

You will first spend time learning the details of how the current systems operate, seeing where opportunities exist to improve and where the gaps are. Once you’re intimately familiar with the operation, you will be responsible to identify, define and prioritize the highest-value opportunities with a keen eye to the feasibility and ROI. Working with the manufacturing and engineering teams and the Advanced Technology group, you will take ownership of your projects through their full lifecycle including creating the appropriate project roadmap where none may exist right now.

As you develop successful process improvements, the opportunity exists for advancement on either the technical or management track; we’re looking for long-term growth on the team, and seek someone who wants to be part of the organization for the long term also.

Desired Skills & Experience

To succeed in this role and make the most of the career opportunity, a combination of education, experience, skills and personal characteristics is required:

  • BSChE required.
  • 5-10 years experience in liquid spray paint application including experience in a high-volume production environment. Automated 2K application experience helpful
  • Proven success originating and executing meaningful process improvement projects with significant ROI.
  • Resourceful, pro-active, high-energy, optimistic personality – always find a way.
  • Prioritize effectively. Able to make the technical and business case. See the big picture and how that drives the details.
  • Able to define a project from concept stage where no existing guidelines exist; define project scope and plan, and execute on the relevant steps without step-by-step supervision; strong focus, persistence, determination and follow-through. Beyond strictly “project management skills.”
  • Understand and manage the needs of others productively – add value in all relationships, even those outside the direct department or reporting hierarchy. Actively enjoy finding ways to help others; fully engaged leader and/or participant in cross-functional teams and relationships at all levels in the organization.
  • Emotionally mature, confident without being arrogant, inquisitive, constant learner.
