Job Description

This position is responsible to establish, implement and support dimensional metrology and CMM standards for equipment, environment and operators. The position will work with and support dimensional metrology needs for the Centers of Competencies, manufacturing plants and suppliers. In addition, the position will become the lead resource for GD&T for Bendix.



Essential Functions:
  • Audit and assess plants on CMM/dimensional metrology use, lab environment, process adherence and people development
  • Standardize CMM software, programming and fixture techniques. Identify and secure CMM software upgrades as required and appropriate.
  • Work with Central Engineering to identify needs and rollout training for GD&T interpretation.
  • Provide training and mentoring on CMM and dimensional metrology methodologies and applications.
  • Establish and monitor CMM programmer & operator competency matrix and work with plant leadership to identify training opportunities.
  • Define and monitor lab environments and preventative maintenance schedule for CMM equipment to meet dimensional metrology standards.
  • Standardize measurement methodology for Bendix/BSFB.
  • Measurement Systems Analysis authority to lead, assist and monitor Gauge R&R studies for all types of measurement gauges
  • Support CoC measurement needs for Risk Assessment issues and other business critical issues
  • Provide professional expertise and mediation support on measurement questions/issues involving BCVS/BSFB plants, suppliers or customers
  • Leading company authority for use of Bendix/BSFB component measurement tools and techniques.
  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert for GD&T. Provide consultation for drawing interpretation, design conventions, and training as required.




Required Skills
  • Strong working dimensional metrology skills relating to use of calipers, micrometers, profilometers, digital height gauges, CMM, as well as elastomer and other dimensional metrology.
  • Analytical, quantitative and problem solving skills.
  • Strong commitment to attain and keep data integrity
  • Strong bias for action; multi-task oriented; highly motivated; self-starter positive attitude.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including process documentation and training skills.
  • Work collaboratively with external/internal customers; Promotes and maintains strong customer relationships.
  • Technically strong; ability to understand product design intent and functionality.
  • Self-reliant; Ability to work well with little supervision.
  • Strong PC skills including MS Excel use, experience with database use/construction; proficiency in SAS a plus.
  • Ability to communicate at all levels of the organization
  • Strong bias for constant learning/self-improvement within dimensional metrology and data management.


Knowledge:
  • Advanced/Expert knowledge of CMM equipment and dimensional metrology methodologies.
  • Advanced/Expert knowledge of GD&T drawing methodology.
Required Experience
  • 10 years of CMM programming experience
  • 5 years of Vision measurement programming experience
  • Subject matter expert on CMM and other related dimensional metrology tools.
  • Selection and installation of new CMM equipment
  • Extensive teaching & coaching on CMM programming
  • Calypso software programming experience
  • GD&T - design/drawing interpretation


Education:
  • Minimum 4 year engineering/engineering technology degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electronics Engineering Technology, or similar appropriate educational background (Mathematics, Physics).
  • GD&T Course Certification. Advanced level.
  • Appropriate Dimensional metrology certifications a plus.
  • Six Sigma certification (Green Belt) a plus.
