Job Description
Reliability Engineer Specialist – Location: Edmonton
Primary Focus
Provide focused leadership and technical expertise in the development and execution of programs which directly contributes to objectives to; Optimize mechanical and electrical component/equipment reliability, establish redundancy principles and practices utilized for the design and operations of assets, analyze life cycle operation and maintenance costs and model/forecast unscheduled pipeline system downtime due to design, operation risk variables. Desired Skills & Experience
Specific Accountabilities Lead the equipment and or infrastructure aspects of major incident investigations, in support of Management.
Direct or lead systemic mechanical or electrical equipment failure root cause analysis that collectively affect pipeline throughput performance.
Develop or manage the tracking and response of improvements to root causes and the underlying management systems.
Lead and or conduct predictive failure analysis on critical energy measurement, containing or controlling components/equipment and advise on risks, repair and repair or replacement alternatives.
Research LP and industry data and champion reliability and or cost reduction strategies with Engineering and Operations management.
Review and or lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on technical design standards or specifications while recommending changes based on analysis research or experience.
Lead the establishment of “life cycle” cost and redundancy, inclusive of providing project specific technical and risk advice through design and other review processes.
Initiate and lead the technical and operational review or trials of new technologies and generation of critical equipment to enhance safety, reliability and efficiency of operation.
Reporting Relationships
Reports to the Manager of Reliability with Operations Engineering.
Directs consultant resources as required.
Dimensions
Routinely communicates independently with all levels of internal stakeholders ranging from trades persons, to Directors and with some review to Senior Leaders.
Routinely interfaces with industry peers, vendors and project managers.
Scope of application extends from the engineering design to existing operations in Canada and the US.
Working Conditions
Office based with schedule travel and occasional urgent response needs related to investigations, site meetings or inspections.
Must be responsive and provide timely quality results appropriate to the corporate risk/urgency as a consequence to system incidents or events.
Typical Qualifications
P.Eng. designation or ability to become registered.
Bachelor or Masters of Engineering or related degree with 10-15 years progressive experience including significant experience in leadership roles.
Preferably Mechanical or Chemical Engineering discipline or proven technical proficiency in a number of engineering disciplines.
Experience with rotating equipment, electrical drive systems and control systems a definite asset.
Exposure to systems engineering principles, and reliability tools such as FMEA, Root Cause and RCM a benefit.
Proven abilities to initiate and drive change, be innovative, problem solve, negotiate and think strategically; work well in teams as well as drive teams towards specified goals.
Must demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills with well develop written and verbal group presentation capabilities.
Proficient with the following office software: Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Lotus Notes and databases
