Discipline Engineers in Production Division work in their core discipline but are expected to have or develop generalist skills - maintenance, supply chain management, asset integrity etc. The work could be 'in country' or in BP's main offices in Sunbury, Houston and elsewhere.
Additionally, to support all divisions of the company, there is a requirement to recruit engineers to work in centralised teams (Sunbury/Houston). This work involves some travel to operating sites to support local staff when necessary.

BP's Exploration and Production (E&P) Instruments & Protective Systems Engineers deliver specialist technical support and assurance for integrated control and safety system (ICSS) hardware and software systems whether it is for onshore, offshore topsides, hull or subsea systems and R&D. The individuals for these positions will be expected to work across the field of instruments & protective systems engineering for operations around the world. The individual is expected to have experience in field of Instruments and Protective Systems (I&PS) design and operation at oil and gas processing facilities and be knowledgeable of applicable industry standards and practices.
The work includes:
* Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA) Studies.
* Control HAZOP studies.
* Conceptual and front-end designs for modifications and projects.
* Integrated Control and Safety System (ICSS) design, installation and verification, in particular Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS).
* Participation in and performing process hazard analysis functions, Safety Integrity Level (SIL) and design reviews and risk/reliability assessments.
* Field instrumentation, Foundation Fieldbus and fire and gas system specification and evaluation.
* Commissioning of facilities and technical troubleshooting.
* Producing recommendations for equipment operation or maintenance improvements.
* Participating in Root Cause and Failure Analysis (RCFA).
* Liaison with BP's Main Automation Contractors.
* Development and maintenance of BP's internal instrument and control Engineering Technical Practices (ETPs).
* Providing technical guidance on application of codes, standards, project design criteria and ETPs.
* Involvement with the development of industry standards and practices (e.g. IEC 61508/11, EEMUA).
* Supporting for the I&PS Community of Practice (CoP) and the wider Instrument, Control and Electrical (ICE) Network.

* Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related discipline is required.

* Extensive experience with instrumentation, control and protective systems.
* Strong knowledge of process hazards analysis techniques such as HAZOP and LOPA.
* Good working knowledge of industry and government standards such as IEC, EEMUA and/or ISA, NEC, API requirements for facilities.
