AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) is the world's third largest gold producer with 20 operations in 10 countries on four continents. AGA employs over 62,000 people globally. In Australia, AGA operates the Sunrise Dam Gold Mine and is developing the Tropicana Gold Mine in which it has a 70% interest and is manager. Independence Group NL holds the remaining 30%. The Sunrise Dam and Tropicana operations are both situated in WA.

Tropicana represents the most significant Australian gold discovery of the last decade. The new, large scale open pit gold mining operation will produce 3.45 million ounces over a 10 year mine life (approved project). Construction began in 2011 and first gold is anticipated in the December quarter of 2013.
Accountable to the Mining Manager, this role provides site wide strategy and long term development of Mining Systems, including MineStar, MMRS, open pit wireless mesh and digital truck radio systems. To support and adequately plan resourcing for operational and project mining systems activities, monitor performance of the mining systems and the mine performance in general to identify areas of opportunity for improvement. Provide technical training and advice to site personnel on mining systems.
The role allows you to contribute directly to business improvement projects including truck automation. The Tropicana Mining Systems include important components which allow Tropicana to maintain optimal economic and sustainable operations of the surface mining equipment fleet.
This role is based at the Tropicana Gold Mine on an 8/6 FIFO roster from Perth or Kalgoorlie.
The main tasks of the role include but are not limited to:
  • Configuration and strategic planning of CAT MineStar, including related hardware, communications systems, database and application layers
  • Configuration and strategic planning of RF and wireless communications equipment
  • Production and reconciliation reporting via Mine Management Reporting System (MMRS) and MineStar
  • Validation and quality assurance of mine production reporting data
  • Evaluation of mining production and cost improvement opportunities based on analysis of production records
  • Provision of mine production information, control charts and data analysis to the mining team and management
  • Project Management of technical systems, both implementation and operations including budgeting, planning and management
The ideal candidate will possess:
  • Technical or production background in mining, mine geology or related discipline
  • Proficiency in MMRS, or similar mine production and reconciliation system
  • High level of IT proficiency, including competence in relational database applications
  • Working knowledge of UHF radio systems and wireless networking
  • Demonstrated ability of coordinating cross departmental tasks and projects.
  • Experience in delivery and development of technical training
  • Attention to detail and accuracy of data
  • Presentation and report writing skills of a level required for communication to senior and executive management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Understanding of budgeting requirements of a large organisation
  • Commitment to safety, quality and teamwork. Demonstrated ability to encourage team safety and event/hazard reporting.
  • C Class Driver's Licence
The following will be held in high regard:
  • Experience in budgeting and SAP or other cost control systems.
  • Expert user of CAT MineStar, or equivalent despatch and fleet management systems
  • Experience to work with wireless networks, radio systems and RF ID tagging systems.
  • Diploma or Degree in an information systems / electronics / communications / Mining Engineering / Mechatronics Engineering or similar
