SUPERINTENDENT COAL QUALITY

Permanent position – Site Based
PURPOSE

  • This position is a leadership role that manages the coal quality plan and processes to enable delivery against the Short Range Forecast for Safety, Volume and Quality. Leads their team in the delivery of safe work practices that comply with the site health and safety management system by reviewing and communicating the specified targets and standards. Optimises the process to maximise yield, recovery and throughput within quality specifications outlined by the plan. Manages costs to budget for coal quality as well as blending for product quality, and is accountable for rectifying variances. Develops skills of direct reports through coaching and mentoring.

CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Demonstrate and instil an overriding commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility and sustainable development
  • Demonstrate commitment to the BHP Billiton Values and IndoMet Coal Project’s key behaviours and Code of Business Conduct
  • Comply with relevant policies, Group Level Documents (GLDs) and the site health & safety management system
  • Support Manager Planning and Logistics to engage with manager production and contractor to resolve resourcing and scheduling issues in order to deliver optimal overall production quality and manage ARD (Acid Rock Drainage)
  • Provide input into 2 year plan and budget with regard to coal quality and ARD management
  • Management of onsite / on-shift geology / quality team
  • Arrange supervision of Contractor by geologists for clean coal mining activities to minimise coal loss and waste dilution
  • Arrange supervision of Contractor by geologists for ARD management activities to eliminate ARD impact on the off site environment
  • Responsible for the allocation of in-situ coal to various product types; including the nomination of single pass / multi-pass coal mining requirements.
  • Management of any additional mine sampling (grade control) and analysis as required.
  • Responsible for managing and tracking coal inventory at mine stockpiles, MT port and IBT stockpiles (tonnes and quality). Including management of seasonal inventory levels.
  • Responsible for planning barge cargo “assembly”. Requires close liaison with IBT, marketing, the Operations Contractor, as well as a good understanding of short to medium term mine plans.
  • Analyse coal quality variances and departures from ARD management plans, trends, risks and opportunities across shifts, highlighting operational performance issues to management
  • Perform and coordinate reporting for management to ensure that they are continuously informed and updated

QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS / ABILITIES :
  • Tertiary qualification in Geology / Metallurgy or equivalent industry and/or organisational experience
  • All required site statutory competencies as referenced in the site health and safety management system and/or IMC policy
  • Coal quality, geology or coal processing background
  • Exposure to thin seam mining and metallurgical coal an advantage
  • Experience in managing mine and/or port product quality
  • Experience with coal quality management and ARD management
  • Pengawas Operasioal Madya / POM qualification holder from the Indonesia’s Dept of Mines & Energy
  • Proficient in English language
