Position Overview:
Operating on a 16 days on, 12 days off roster commuting from Cairns, you will work as part of a multicultural team on this exciting international project. Barrick Porgera is based in the Highlands of Enga Province in Papua New Guinea and offers a unique and challenging work environment. At an elevation in excess of 2100 meters the Porgera Valley has a year round temperate climate with an annual rainfall of approximately 3.6 meters. The 2500 strong workforce is extremely diverse both culturally and in regards to education, skill and experience.
The opportunity exists for you to relocate to Cairns and enjoy a relaxed lifestyle in a modern and dynamic city offering excellent educational facilities up to university level. Alternatively and subject to conditions, the company will subsidise on-travel airfares paid to commute to and from Cairns for each work roster.
The Position:
Reporting to the Mine Engineering Services Manager / Chief Mining Engineer, this role will be responsible for the integration and coordination of engineering, surveying, drafting, ventilation, geotechnical, projects, LT Planning & short to medium planning and dispatch functions for both the Underground and Open Cut to enable the production teams to safely achieve budget and Life of Mine Plan.
This position is also responsible for ensuring identification and estimation of mineral resources and ore reserves and the design and management of systems for their safe recovery.
The Person:
You will possess at least 15 years appropriate tertiary qualifications in Engineering with significant experience in underground and open pit production engineering within a gold mining operation including exposure and strategic contribution to Life of Mine Planning. Must have several years’ experience, in leadership and management of a multi-disciplinary team in a medium to large scale mining operation.
This challenging role requires you to engage with all people associated with the Barrick Porgera Operations and to understand, learn from and share cultural differences. It also has the responsibility of overseeing the provision of training and coaching to National and Local employees as part of the company’s Training and Localisation Plan. It is essential that you have the capability and desire to transfer skills and knowledge to a national workforce. Must be a member of AusIMM and be eligible to become a member of Engineers PNG. Must be able to register as a CP with AusIMM.
