My client is an engineering firm in SA, currently seeking a Business Development Manager for the Mining and Metals sector.

Requirements are as follows:


  • Appropriate technical teriary qualification with 10 years minimum experience.
  • Additional marketing qualification would be advantageous
  • Professional Registration
  • 5+ years relevant experience
  • South African citizenship

Responsibilities:

  • Liaise, communicate and operate with all other staff reporting to the GM M&M to ensure satisfactory teamwork to assist in achieving the Company’s corporate plans and objectives. To participate and manage the Sales & Marketing activities in consultation with the GM M&M in accordance with defined tasks and the Company’s Long Range Plan and current/future policies.
  • To provide support and assistance to other divisions of Foster Wheeler and affiliate companies as agreed with the GM M&M.
  • To draft and implement the M&M Sales and Marketing strategy and objective and to assist the GM M&M in providing information which can assist in effective execution.
  • Draft, implement and manage the new business forecasts for the M&M business line.

Duties:

  • Contributing data and information to the GM M&M for incorporation in a business plan.
  • Formulate, recommend and implement the approved business development plan.
  • Interface and liaise with other Departmental Managers and GM M&M to co-ordinate resources and strategy.
  • To effectively plan and utilise business development activity in consultation with the GM M&M to achieve targets.
  • Participate in and manage proposal preparation to ensure guidelines and ley client requirements are incorporated in submissions. Fully understand the client delivery and approval processes and requirement.

· Preparation of weekly activity summary

· b. Preparation of monthly activity report

· c. Long range look ahead (1-2 year)

· d. Strategy briefing on key clients/projects and in consultation with the GM M&M and Managing Director to establish criteria

· e. Monitor and report progress on reference targets.

· 7. Maintenance of data sources including client data, competitor data, client debriefing and project/opportunity/prospect data and progress

· 8. Propose plan for personal development, in conjunction with the GM M&M.

· 9. Interface and provide input to Project Services & Estimating.

· 10. Interface and liaise with Business Development Managers in International Sales Organisation in consultation with GM M&M and Managing Director.

· 11. Investigate and report on potential strategic alliance partners to the GM M&M.

· 12. Participate in TQM activities in consultation with the GM M&M.

· 13. Ensure Company policy is followed within Sales and Marketing Department.

· 14. Achieve business line sales targets.

· 15. Own client responsibility.

· 16. Monitor and identify key corporate clients, establish and maintain information and relationships.

· 17. Seek out and identify strategic alliances.

· 18. Identify technology needs.

· 19. Monitor and report on competitor situations and trends.

· 20. Maintain necessary contact with Professional bodies, and ensure good projection of the Company’s image to clients, the public and third parties.

· 21. To undertake duties as requested by the GM M&M.

· 22. Maintain the correct application of FW Corporate Identity.

· 23. Approve timesheets, expense claims and leave applications for all departmental staff.

· 24. Control departmental indirect man-hours and costs.

· 25. Regularly review departmental personnel and make recommendations to the GM M&M for promotional and salary advancement.

· 26. Carry out personnel appraisals of departmental staff.

· 27. Plan for and direct the development and training of departmental staff.

· 28. Develop market research methods and indicators to identify major prospects. Identify and implement an appropriate capture plan.

· 29. Develop and implement methods to determine success probability.

· 30. Network widely with client market, prior to and during contract execution.

· 31. Develop relationships with strategic partners to enable the formation of teams (and strategic alliances) before opportunities arise.

· 32. Gather regular client feedback and communicate to GM M&M and proposals/project teams.

· 33. Provide assistance to business line directors during contract negotiations prior to award.

Essential

· Extensive experience of business development within similar industry, with proven marketing, commercial and contractual management background

· Thorough knowledge and understanding of engineering and project delivery business

· Operational experience on a mine

· Excellent command of the English language

· Good listener
